King Goat – Debt Of Aeons Review

Release date: 20th April 2018

Debt Of Aeons is a release I’ve been eagerly awaiting for quite some time, especially after hearing some of their new material when they supported Paradise Lost, and it certainly does not disappoint.

King Goat are great at what they do. Their music is hypnotic and immersive, drawing the listener in as the release progresses. The band has a unique sound and approach, setting them apart from the crowd, and each of the seven tracks bring something different to the table – they work well as both individual pieces and as part of the bigger picture, which is certainly testament to great songwriting.

One of the best things about Debt Of Aeons is the vocals. The music is wonderfully heavy, yet a clean vocal approach is used extensively. As a result, the vocals sound very bold and pronounced, and they add another dimension to the music. A good example of this is fifth track Doldrum Sentinels, the music switches from heavy in-your-face instrumental approaches to a more stripped-back take at one point and the vocals fit well to both styles – the same powerful performance is given in both sections but it works for both. (And they then switch to a harsh approach in the latter half of the song, which adds another dimension!)

Debt Of Aeons is another great release from King Goat. This is a band at the top of their game, and I’m already keen to catch them live again soon!
