Hasn’t June come around quickly? Well, May was full of excellent releases – here’s our picks of the best!
Nat’s Picks
Lik – Carnage
Track to check out: The Deranged

Now this is death metal done exceedingly well. I can’t stop listening to Carnage, which is definitely the sign of an awesome album, and I’m already looking into ways of seeing this talented band live as soon as I can!
Engel – Abandon All Hope
Track to check out: The Darkest Void

Abandon All Hope is another powerful release from Engel and is perhaps their best release to date. This is one of those albums that deserves to be blasted at top volume!
Callidice – Anthem For Resistance
Track to check out: Scarred

I loved their last EP and Anthem For Resistance was just as impressive! The blend between melody and aggression is just right, and Callidice have already got me hungry for more.
Dave’s Picks
Dimmu Borgir – Eonian
Track to check out: Lightbringer
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/dimmu-borgir-eonian-review/
Purchase link: https://www.dimmu-borgir.com/
Destined to polarize fans because Dimmu Borgir found some success in the early naughties and because Eonian isn’t a rearrangement of their earlier works. A new album that sounds more like Old Man’s Child than Arcturus (I jest of course) it’s everything I love about Norwegian black metal: Intelligent Musical Experimentation… in a triumphant return.
Fractal Gates – The Light That Shines
Track to check out: Faceless
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/fractal-gates-the-light-that-shines-review/
Purchase link: https://fractalgates.bandcamp.com/album/the-light-that-shines
Unlit serendipity is how I refer to this album when I’m trying to be smart. It’s basically a play on Dark Tranquility. And while I know I’m not funny neither is this as it’s seriously good melo-death.
Old Man Wizard – Blame It All On Sorcery
Track to check out: Last Ride Of The Ancients

/me excites: yeah yeah yeah this is what music is meant to do. This is just a fantastic album with its cinematic arrangements that are neo-folky goodness. In a type of theatrical rock, this album is rich with not only style but class. And kinda reminds me of The Deer Hunter.
