Singled Out: Myrkgrav – Vonde Auer

Myrkgrav Vonde Auer

Vonde Auer, the new single from one-man folk metal project Myrkgrav, certainly feels like it’s been a long time in the making. Although 2013 did see the release of an EP, Sjuguttmyra, his last full-length release, Trollskau, skrømt og kølabrenning first graced our ears all the way back in 2006, almost ten years ago!

Vonde Auer is a bit of a difficult track to fully get into. The vocal performance doesn’t quite engage you, and the instrumentation leaves a little bit to be desired – it’s not bad, but it just doesn’t have that special spark to take your breath away. It almost feels like a let-down due to the quality of his previous material; it’s like he’s not firing from all cylinders and it’s disappointing as a result. A shame, really.

4/10
