Shock horror – I am about to embark on yet another trip to Finland for some shows, so this week’s playlist is inspired by the bands I will be seeing whilst out there. Listen and get involved below!
Vorna – Ukkonen
The main objective of this trip to Finland will be to see Vorna live. However this time I’m not going to one show, or even two – I shall be attending all three of their Finnish dates! As this is the song that really made me sit up and pay attention on my first listen of their debut album Ajastaika, there was no competition as to which song from their back catalogue I would be including on this playlist, but with the release of their second album hopefully coming before the end of the year, hopefully it won’t be too long before we get to share some new material in a future playlist with you soon!
Whispered – Blade In The Snow
On the second date of the Vorna tour in Jyväskylä, I will be taking a detour to attend another show first, and the opening band on the lineup is the incredible Whispered, a folk metal band with Japanese elements to their music. Blade In The Snow is a song that will absolutely floor you as soon as you hear it due to how damn epic it is, and you can be sure that this band’s live show will be something to behold!
Turmion Kätilöt – Kirottujen karnevaalit
Headlining the ‘other’ Jyväskylä gig I will be attending is Turmion Kätilöt, who recently released their excellent new album Diskovibrator. Kirottujen karnevaalit is the opening track from the album and it’s so catchy that one listen just isn’t enough – this is a song that needs to be listened to on repeat! I’ll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for them to play this one live, and if their show is anything as good as the one they gave at Kuopio RockCock, then it’s going to be a fantastic night.
Church Of Void – Owls Are Listening
As well as attending shows in Finland, I will also be taking the opportunity to catch up with the awesome Church Of Void for an interview ahead of their two UK dates later in the month – on October 15 at the Fiddler’s Elbow in London and October 16 at the Star And Garter in Manchester. Owls Are Listening is a particularly strong track from the band, so if you like what you hear then make sure you get involved with one of their shows!
