Promethium – Faces Of War Review

Promethium are back for another round, and Faces Of War is the band’s latest effort.

Faces Of War follows largely the same format as the band’s last two albums and whilst it is a decent enough listen, it does feel a little bit tired due to there being no real progression from prior releases. The songs are great, featuring awesome musicianship and fantastic vocals, but it doesn’t feel like Promethium have treaded any new ground this time around and it’s a little disappointing as a result.

That’s not to say it’s a bad album. One highlight is the empassioned Stolen Valour, which features a very powerful and punchy vocal line, and a drumline that adds a lot of momentum to the track. Meanwhile Shell Shock is a more emotive song and the lyrics in this one are especially powerful, dealing with the topic of PTSD, and the two difference vocal approaches of soft and aggressive works well – it’s like you’re actually in the head of the suffering soldier, which is definitely testament to good writing.

As a whole, Faces Of War is good, but it could be better as it just doesn’t sound like the freshest release out there. Still, it’s a worthwhile listen and a solid album; check this one out if you can!
