Pure Wrath – The Forlorn Soldier Review

Release date: 6th March 2020

Atmospheric black metal with just that right amount of symphonic elements – Pure Wrath’s new EP The Forlorn Soldier is an immersive listen that will definitely remain with you after the three tracks are other.

There’s a great attention to detail within each track, with the varying vocal approaches being a particular highlight. Each twist and turn keeps you intrigued and engaged, drawing you in. The soaring guitar lines coupled with harsh vocals are a particularly nice touch, and the melodic interjections divide everything up nicely.

All three tracks are strong, but for me the most powerful is the closer, With Their Names Engraved. A mini epic that rounds up The Forlorn Soldier to a triumphant end, the symphonic elements at the beginning will give you goosebumps before the clean vocals add ambience to an already-atmospheric performance. The song also progresses into heavier sections, showcasing the different styles and approaches Pure Wrath have to offer, ensuring that no element of their sound is forgotten, before winding things up with a slower section that brings things to a gentle and natural finish.

Pure Wrath have done well with The Forlorn Soldier – and I for one can’t wait for the next full-length.
