Sabaton – The Great War Review

Release date: 19th July 2019

Sometimes you just know an album is going to blow you away as soon as you’ve heard the first ten seconds of the first track – and The Great War is one of those albums. Indeed, ever since I downloaded this for review, I’ve barely stopped listening to it – it’s very addictive and is yet again another fine album from the Swedish power metallers. It feels good to be this excited about an album.

Sabaton are the masters of writing some seriously catchy tunes and from opening track The Future Of Warfare (an absolutely massive opener), to third track 82nd All The Way (just WAIT until you hear that earworm of a chorus) and title track Great War (which is good ol’ classic Sabaton), there are plenty of mighty tracks to sink your teeth into. Indeed, all of the eleven tracks bring something excellent to the table so The Great War is an album you’ll want to keep coming back to.

The Great War could perhaps be one of the strongest Sabaton albums of all. The energy and momentum never lets up, and the sheer relentlessness of it all just lets you know that this is going to be one of those releases that will translate perfectly into a live environment (although to be honest, all of Sabaton’s albums do). The more you listen to it, the more immersed you get into the album and the songs will be rattling round your head for a long while after the closing notes of the last song ring out.

Make sure you don’t let this album pass you by. Sabaton have truly outdone themselves with this one.

10/10
