Septicflesh – Modern Primitive Review

Release date: 20th May 2022

Septicflesh has always been a very impressive band, and I have been waiting with baited breath for their latest album Modern Primitive ever since it was first announced they were releasing new material. Needless to say, it has been worth the wait, because Modern Primitive is a very powerful and memorable bit of work.

The thing with Septicflesh is that they always go big and ambitious with their music, and it pays off every time. From the hauntingly hypnotic opening chords of first track The Collector, Septicflesh immediately draw you in before hitting you with a powerful wall of sound, and then don’t let up for one moment. Septicflesh have the blend of symphonic and death metal just right in their music, with the melodic instrumental sections contrasting beautifully with the more brutal sections.

Indeed, it’s difficult for me to single out specific highlights on the album because every track just genuinely hits so hard. Modern Primitive is one of those albums that you’ll keep wanting to come back for one more listen; it is addictive and immersive, and on every listen it just draws you in further – in fact, much like a lot of Septicflesh’s previous offerings.

I honestly can’t get enough of this album. Modern Primitive could well be one of Septicflesh’s strongest albums to date, and I’m already keen to catch them at one of the UK dates in October with The Agonist and Hypocrisy.

October 5th: London, Islington Assembly Hall
October 6th: Birmingham, Institute II
October 7th: Manchester, Academy II
