When I saw that Melbourne, Australia’s rock/pop juggernaut Collegians were about to release a new single, it was safe to say that I was pretty pumped about what they were going to show up with this time around, as history has shown that when they surface it is always with an inspiring and infectious new track, and I am happy to report back that upon hearing their latest single to be released on June 29th, Collegians may have outdone themselves with The Valley.
Mixed by the legendary Travis Ference, who is responsible for such high-profile acts as Imagine Dragons and Ariana Grande, it is no surprise that The Valley is a textbook beautiful sounding song. I feel as though, somehow, Collegians have discovered a deeper understanding of who they are as a band, and this inspired new single just serves to prove my point.
What Collegians have always done well is create anthemic songs that feel like they should be played to large crowds of people. A great many indie bands suffer from sounding like they do not have the funds for high production or the inner vision to sell out stadiums, but Collegians always sound like they know that they could play alongside anyone of any size, and I would set up a tour with them and 30 Seconds To Mars in less than 30 seconds if I could.
I don’t want to waste too much dissecting how every member of the band (Singer – Glenn Patrick, Drums – Vince Leigh, Guitar – Gerry Leigh, Keys / bass – James Leigh) pushed themselves a bit further to create this hot new single (because they all did, I mean, those drums though, nice), but I do need to point out that Glenn Patrick absolutely let’s his voice soar in this song. I am reminded of a little-known band called One Republic (yes, I am being sarcastic here, because you know who they are) and how they also understand cinematic composition.
Collegians are set to place themselves squarely on the musical map with The Valley.
