“I am afraid of the things I will fucking probably find!” These are the fearless words from Detroit rapper ruffi0 on his latest hard-hitting single Into The Void.
After witnessing this artists bloody-face-punch music video for Mayday, it is no surprise to see yet another music video attempting to mess with my brain on some deep emotinal level.
One thing about ruffi0 that is made crystal clear to his audience is that he is not going to waste any time diluting his personal message through lyrical half-measures. Placing metaphors high up on the shelf, ruffi0 says it straight and brutally, and his music is not for the weak. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, that heart clearly finding itself covered in scars from warring with itself for far too long.
As I have come to expect from ruffi0, there are smooth, laid back beats laced with enough expletives to fill the entire swear jar before the songs, and that just solidifies the struggle this artists finds himself in. You can tell that ruffi0 has been doing some serious reflecting on the inner working sof his own mind, and that he has a deep desire to share that with those that will take the time to listen. His dark and story driven style is reminicent of other respected hiphop acts like NF, Tom Macdonald and Lil Peep.
ruffi0 is one of those hidden gems that is starting to shine brightly in the industry. There is a hype growing around this musician, and for good reason, he is trying to help others through shedding a light on his own darkeness, as if to say ‘this is fucking tough as hell, but you and I are going to make it through, just hold on a little longer.’ It is pointed artists such as this that show the true power of the hiphop medium, as lyrics created with an introspective revolutionary intention hit their target straight and true, creating hope for the hopeless, and no doubt end up saving a few lives along the way.
Perhaps hiphop isn’t your thing, perhaps it is, either way, you should take a moment to hear what ruffi0 has to say, because he has something unique and real to share with you, and in a music scene still choking on the toxic fumes from the SJW/cancel culture fires, fearless acts such as this deserve our attention.
