Whenever I listen to a song by The ET Boys I feel as if I have been transported to a summer day on a beach, surrounded by some of my closest friends, just living in the moment and enjoying each others company. This is not to say that this reflects the content of their lyrics, but rather it reflects the band’s authentic approach to songwriting. What they do so well is write unapologetically from the heart, and not once have I ever felt that they were playing to crowd over playing for themselves.
Love Me If You Must fits right in with what we have heard before from the nu pop duo comprised of South Florida musicians Tacboy and Sharkeyes. It is a song that starts incredibly simplistic in its synth drum beat, leading into an airy vocal line layered over sounds that would find themselves at home being compared to the likes of The Prize Fighter Inferno. When listened to on just the face value of the song, Love Me If You Must is an easy listening experience that many listeners will likely choose to add to their summer party playlists, but when listened to on a deeper level, the song drips of an emotional depth that asks the listener to look inward and become retrospective about things. This is an impressive songwriting feat.
It’s difficult to nail down the main influences of The ET Boys when you listen to songs like Love Me If You Must because a song like this is akin to an abstract painting with sound. It has 80’s pop elements, moments of R&B, a bit of a cinematic flair, and then something else, and when you put all these concepts together you end up with something truly unique to the artist. For anyone who has not heard The ET Boys before, this new single is their signature sound, and I would say that if you enjoy this song then you should waste no time in waiting to hear their other music, because so far, they have not had a miss!
Nice work, The ET Boys!
