The entire music scene has been directly impacted by the current pandemic, and many artists have chosen to take this time to embrace a hiatus and wait out the virus until live shows start up once again; but not for the alt-rock, New Jersey trio, The Finite Beings. Choosing to release their latest single titled The Virus during the current virus is meant clearly as an act of war against the suppression of art that this pandemic has waged upon them all.
Why is The Virus an important song? Simply put, it is meant as a symbol of hope in a world that feels like it is paralyzed by fear, and that is what great art is about, it is about pushing through something and creating a better situation, and The Finite Beings want you to know that we are all going to be alright, as long as we remember to reconnect after this isolation, and as long as we remember that fear is a liar.
Opening with a subtle and somber guitar, the listener may mistake this song for being a bit of a sleeper, but if you hang on a little bit, the song launches off into some truly glorious moments (that solo is sexy). The vocals are melodical, the lyrics are meaningful, the guitars have that 90’s era distortion and chunky strikes, while the drums and bass provide a thick backbone to a song that feels as simple as it is complex.
The Virus is a great song with a beautifully hopeful message, and it is a great addition to the current quiet music scene, and I can only hope that musicians that hear this song use its inspired message to quit wasting time waiting for a better day to make music, and just get to making that music right now. The world always needs art, especially in times as uncertain and troubling as these, and if we can offer messages of hope as The Finite Beings have with their new single The Virus, then I think we can all get through this together just fine, at least this is the hope, and isn’t that the point? Well, for this new single The Virus it certainly is.
