Hailing from Vancouver, BC Canada comes an aggressively new beautiful hard rock sound in the form of the new single Corrosion by Within the Woods. Powered by the backbone of three friends with creative business left unfinished, the desire to answer their creative calling, and the new addition of Justin Morgan on vocals, Within the Woods waste no time with slow introductions; Corrosion launches straight into the high-octane visceral and goes straight for the jugular.
The opening guitar riff provided by the exceptional Michael Topolnisky is straight up fire. It’s fast, it’s catchy as hell, and it sounds incredible turned up as loud as you can stand it. As far as guitar-riffs go, this is very much in line with bands like Thrice and In Flames.
Providing this powerful single with the thunderous drums required to elevate this song to a head-banging anthemic piece is the methodical Michael Filipski. Driving Corrosion with an incredible force, Filipski just absolutely crushes this track.
Dana Cannam is responsible for the bloody thick bassline that cements this track into one of my favorite new tracks from any current new indie artist. Timing his hits to match alongside Topolnisky’s guitar, Dana shows his ability to keep pace with the speed of the rest of the members without losing his unique creative take on what the song needs.
When great music is paired with great vocals something special happens, a creative alchemy of sound fuses together to create a sonic soundscape that is unforgettable, and when the three original members of Within the Woods reached out to Justin Morgan to take the helm of this project, Corrosion launched itself to an entire new level.
I found myself re-listening to the song multiple times to focus in on each individual section that every member brought to the scorching track, which was easy to do considering the tight production of award-winning mixing provided by Perfect Filth Productions.
It’s early 2020 as I write this song and technically speaking this impressive single came out the final weeks of last year, but when you factor in the necessary music PR lag-time, which I am, then I am going to place this song as my current choice for number one new single of 2020.
