Soundscape’s Inverse Advent 01: Nefariym – Morbid Delusions

About a month ago one of my personal favourite record labels, the mighty Inverse Records based in Finland, announced they were releasing a CD advent calendar. As I’m an absolute sucker for stuff like this, and faced with the prospect of potentially 24 awesome new bands to listen to, I simply had to grab myself one of the “örinää” (material with screaming vocals) calendars – although I am expecting to probably hear some releases I already own!

Day 01: Nefariym – Morbid Delusions
Weirdly, upon opening this one I had two copies of the same album – one in a digipack and one in a plastic sleeve. As far as I can tell, there’s no difference between the two as the CDs look identical, so I guess it’s a nice bonus to give to a friend if I feel so inclined!

A nice slab of heavy death metal, Morbid Delusions doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel but that’s not to say it doesn’t kick ass. This is definitely music to bang your head to, and the tremendous wall of sound seems like it will somehow be even meatier in a live environment.

All in all a nice starting point for day 1! Am definitely looking forward to what I’m going to discover over the next few weeks…
