Soundscape’s Inverse Advent 24: Phallosopher – (I)

Did Inverse really save the best thing in the entire advent calendar until last??? You bet they did!

Day 24: Phallosopher – (I)
I’ve opened some pretty good CDs over these 24 days (as well as a decent amount of garbage) but this album by Phallosopher is without a shadow of a doubt the best one of the entire calendar – I suppose Inverse inevitably saved the big guns for the final day…! Also the artwork has a picture of Jesus on it so this is surely an apt choice to include the day before Christmas, huh?

I’m a little picky with my black metal. It takes a lot to interest me these days because there’s such a lack of variety in the genre, but (I) feels different. Every song is just engaging, I particularly like the frenetic energy to the music paired with the half-bellowed, half-snarled vocals. The music is almost hypnotic in its delivery and I am seriously impressed at how much it has drawn me in.

It’s just too bad I discovered this excellent project far too late because according to Phallosopher’s facebook page, they are on hiatus. Guess it’s just as well I’m already a fan of Henget, huh? 😉

Recommended track: THE WHOLE ALBUM.
