Soundscape’s Picks For Focus Wales

In a couple of weeks, we’ll be heading to Focus Wales to catch the always-fantastic Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard and Skindred. Taking place in Wrexham from May 16-18, Focus Wales 2019 will mark the festival’s 9th edition, and will welcome over 10,000 people to the town, building upon 2018′s record attendance across a jam-packed weekend of events. With plenty of bands to choose from (the full list can be found right here, here’s our picks for who to check out at the event this year!

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard
We’re big fans of MWWB here at Soundscape. A consistently good sludge/doom act that has put out numerous top-notch albums, I’m really excited to see how their music translates into a live environment, because if it’s anywhere close to how good they are on CD, we’re all in for a treat.

Skindred
A band that needs no introduction, Skindred have been killing it onstage for years. Having seen them a few times at Hammerfest, as well as local shows down in South Wales, Skindred bring it every time and always give 110%.

The Lovely Eggs
Years ago, myself and a few friends stumbled across an advert for this band playing a show at Buffalo Bar in Cardiff. Absolutely loving the name, we decided to go check them out and their surreal music and engaging performance made for a fantastic night. Here’s an oldie-but-a-goodie from them.

GRAVVES
I got this band’s EP Oh, The Joy in for review last year and was rather impressed. With a relentless energy and sheer power to the music, you can just tell this band goes for it live – so make sure you’re down at the front for these!

Chroma
Having been singled out by our resident photographer/webmaster/all-round awesome person Nadine last year, you can bet that these are a band to watch out for. Already making waves in the underground scene, it’s surely only a matter of time before these begin to make it big.

Neck Deep
Neck Deep is a band that is certainly becoming one of the bigger names in the pop punk genre, and the fact that they’re Wrexham locals means that there will be an added bonus of a hometown crowd. I fully expect this to be one of the strongest performances of the festival.
