Stahlmann – Kinder der Sehnsucht Review

Release date: March 22nd 2019

I’ve always got time for metal with electronics, and Stahlmann is a band that nicely ticks that box for me. Kinder der Sehnsucht, the band’s sixth full length offering, is another stellar piece of work from the talented NDH outfit and certainly one of those albums that deserves a closer look.

Sixth track Schliess deine Augen is a particularly strong inclusion. There is a great deal of bite and momentum to it, bringing a whole lot of energy and power to the album. Showcasing Stahlmann at their finest, it has a little bit of everything and the way the intro builds things up and gets it all going is magnificent. The vocals are especially good, being performed with passion and having a lot of body, and the electronic line alongside the hammering guitar to close is seriously kickass.

The only issue with the album is that there isn’t a massive deal of variety. Songs follow similar formats to one another, so at times it’s difficult to differentiate between one song and the next. Kinder der Sehnsucht is musically very sound, but it just feels like Stahlmann could benefit from stepping outside their comfort zone a little.

As a whole, Kinder der Sehnsucht is a rather great bit of work. Although it’s a little bit ‘safe’, the power and passion behind each performance on the album cannot be faulted.

7/10
