Suotana – Land Of The Ending Time Review

Release date: 25th May 2018

Land Of The Ending Time is the second album from Finnish melodic death metallers Suotana and it’s a very strong bit of work from the band. It’s captivating and interesting, and an all-round excellent listen.

Setting the scene well with introductory track Alku, with a soft piano line and choral lines that add a lot of atmosphere before it progresses seamlessly into the first full track Troutrace, which continues the themes and melodies presented to the listener in the introductory song. It makes for a more immersive feel to the album and really helps to draw you in!

Third track Sorrowl is where things start to get very interesting. It’s a good blend of heaviness and melody, and the way the harsh vocals are combined with the melodies is excellent. The two different styles juxtapose against one another well, and keeps things sounding fresh – sticking with one monotonic style throughout is never the most engaging approach. Indeed, the band continues in this vein as the album progresses and as a whole, keeps things sounding fresh as they move from one track to the next.

Suotana have got the balance just right with their sound and Land Of The Ending Time is a varied and enjoyable piece to listen to. Make sure you give this album a spin!
