The Agony Scene – Tormentor Review

Release date: 20th July 2018

It’s been over ten years since the last full-length from The Agony Scene, so it’s great to finally hear new material from them following their reformation. Tormentor is an absolute belter of an album, so it was certainly worth the wait!

Relentless, noisy and in-your-face, Tormentor is a mighty-sounding album that will definitely get your head banging along to it as it progresses. Like Weeds In The Field is an early highlight, with chugging riffs and vocals with a tremendous amount of bite to it. It sounds like one of those songs made to be performed live, and I can already picture a crowd of fans coming alive as the sound fills the room!

Indeed, the entire album just sounds like it was made to be performed live. There’s a lot of power and momentum to the music, which almost feels like it can’t be contained within the recording, so I can only begin to imagine the absolute might these songs will have in a live environment.

The Agony Scene are back at full strength, and it’s absolutely wonderful to witness. Tormentor is a tremendous piece of work and I for one am certainly eager to see them live again when they next make it over to the UK!

9/10
