Its always an odd thing when a band releases a B-Sides collection, it’s usually a bunch of covers, alternate versions or songs that the band didn’t think were good enough to make the original albums (usually quite rightly) so it’s never gonna really appeal to anyone other than the hardcore fan, and to be honest the same can be said about this album.
That said, I am a huge The Gaslight Anthem fan, and really like this album, it’s a collection of songs from the American Slang and The ’59 Sound era and contains one new-ish track, She Loves You, which is a great song, full of the trademark Brian Fallon howl and lyrics.
The acoustic songs are cool, The ’59 Sound and Boxer especially, slightly different from the original versions, I also really like the live version of Pearl Jam’s State Of Love And Trust, a great song which the band cover very faithfully.
The Rolling Stones cover Tumbling Dice is a highlight here, and fits perfectly with bands sound.
If you are a The Gaslight Anthem fan then definitely check this out, the stripped down acoustic tracks are worth the price of admission alone.
