Ventenner – Signal Collapse Review

Release date: 28th October 2022

We’ve always been big fans of Ventenner here at Soundscape so have been eagerly awaiting their latest effort, Signal Collapse. This time the album was made completely by Charlie on his own, which is very impressive to say the least – and I would go so far as to say it is the strongest Ventenner album so far.

The songs all just sound so massive and epic, and the album just feels like one you need to blast at a high volume – quite simply, it’s a collection of songs that you keep wanting to revisit. Every single one of the choruses, whilst perhaps not the most complex, just get stuck in your head and I’m really excited to get the chance to see them in a live environment to see how powerfully they are conveyed live. It’s a little different compared to previous releases, more melodic and electronically driven at times, and it’s an exciting progression of sound.

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly which songs are the highlights because Signal Collapse is more of a fluid piece, with the songs feeling more like one coherent freeform track for the most part – which certainly isn’t a bad thing. That doesn’t mean the album doesn’t have variety and two of my favourite tracks are Extinct with its stunningly dark vibe, and the guitar solo in the latter half of Silver kicks some serious ass. It’s the little elements like this that helps give Signal Collapse just the right amount of variety to keep things fresh and engaging.

As a whole, Signal Collapse is great. Whilst unmistakably Ventenner, it also treads new ground and just feels tremendously fresh. Definitely an album worth your time to check out.
