Wess Meets West – A Light Within The Fracture Review

Release date: 6th April 2018

Sometimes, you just need to take a few steps back from your surroundings in order to fully appreciate the beauty of something. A Light Within The Fracture, the third full-length album from instrumental/experimental band Wess Meets West is a particularly good example of this – it’s an immersive listen and a stunning piece that is all too easy to get lost in.

Eleven quietly beautiful tracks, A Light Within The Fracture is a stunning atmospheric piece that will take your breath away. With each individual track blending seamlessly into the next, it’s like Wess Meets West are telling a continuous story with eleven unique elements and the approach works perfectly for them. The colour and emotion in the music paint a beautiful picture that will take your breath away, and will leave you on the edge of your seat with each unique twist and turn the music takes.

Although the music as a whole isn’t overly complex, with no over-the-top embellishments and showy solos, Wess Meets West instead inject wonderful little intricacies into the music to keep you on your toes, with small details to pick up on during each subsequent listen of the album. It’s enough to fully engage the listener without alienating them by needlessly showing off, and it’s a commendable approach.

A Light Within The Fracture is ambitiously great. Wess Meets West know what to do in order to draw the listener in and maintain their interest from start to finish. If you’re big on your instrumental music, then this is an album that you shouldn’t miss.

9/10
