Wormlight – Wrath Of The Wilds Review

Release date: 25th April 2018

Wrath Of The Wilds is the debut album from melodic black metal outfit Wormlight. It’s a well-constructed bit of work with a good clean sound to it, and it’s a very solid release.

Wormlight have crafted some utterly excellent songs on the album and there’s plenty of excellent inclusions for you to sink your teeth into. One particular highlight is fifth track On Tattered Wings. The piano introduction adds a lot of ambience and atmosphere until the guitars kick in, playing the same melody and it really leaves a strong impact as a result, especially when the meaty vocals are added as well. Additionally, there’s an absolutely mighty guitar solo in the latter half of the track that really gives it an extra sparkle.

The only problem is that Wrath Of The Wilds is a little lacking in individuality. Wormlight haven’t quite put their own stamp on their music and there’s nothing that really sets them apart from other bands in the same genre – it’s a very ‘safe’ album so you won’t find any surprises on it.

Wrath Of The Wilds is a decent starting point for Wormlight and a great listen as a whole, but it would be nice to see them take a few risks with a future release. It’s definitely an album worth your while checking out, however, so make sure you don’t miss it!
