Wormwood – Nattarvet Review

Release date: 26th July 2019

About two years ago, Wormwood completely blew me away with their stunning debut, Ghostlands – Wounds From a Bleeding Earth, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting new music from this talented band ever since. They are now back with their second full-length, entitled Nattarvet, and needless to say it does not disappoint.

Nattarvet picks up where Ghostlands left off, but it’s not Wormwood rehashing the same things from their debut. It stays true to the band’s sound, whilst also bringing new elements to the mix to keep it all fresh and unique – there’s nothing worse than a band continually releasing the same album over and over with no progression to their sound.

Each of the tracks brings something special to the album, but the highlight has to be fifth track Sunnas hädanfärd. The soaring guitar introduction is very catchy, and once the vocals are added, they give the track a very strong driving force. Additionally, the main riff is very striking, and the softer, stripped-back section in the middle of the song helps to divide the track up nicely to keep the listener engaged.

As a whole, Nattarvet is a very strong piece of work and an absolutely fantastic return from Wormwood. Already counting down the days to when I finally get to see them live in Sweden next month!
